FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS!
Do you teach voice lessons?
No, ABCoaching does not currently offer voice lessons. We are strictly a coaching service focusing on the overall presentation of your musical or dramatic piece. We aim to seamlessly integrate your acting and singing resulting in a professional and polished skill set. We recommend services be supplemental to regular meetings with a voice teacher.
What do you work on in a musical theater coaching? What do you work on in a dramatic coaching?
In a musical theater coaching we will focus on mixing musicality with storytelling. In theater, characters break into song when words no longer prevail. We aim to use the music we are working through to tell a story by identifying and showcasing specific musical nuances, motifs, lyrics and more.

In a dramatic coaching, we will often focus on the specific verbiage the playwright has chosen and try and help the student identify to the piece we are working on. A scene or monologue always begins in one place and ends in another, and in these coachings we help students to connect the dots between those two places.

Do you offer virtual coachings as well as in-person coaching opportunities?
Yes! ABCoaching offers every coaching service in virtual form.
Keep in mind, that the curriculum for our PreScreen Prep Package and College Audition Prep Package does have to be altered slightly to fit the virtual format. However, the bulk of the coursework translates seamlessly. Virtual preparation is better than no preparation at all.

Do your coachings guarantee that my child will be admitted to a BFA/ BA/ BM program?
We wish we could guarantee that for your student. Unfortunately, the college admission process for BFA/BA/BM musical theater and drama programs are impossible to predict. When each school is looking to accept a freshman class somewhere between the size of 12 and 50 students, colleges are looking for traits beyond talent so that they can create a diverse student population and cast their productions accordingly. None of us can predict what it is they are looking for.

All you can do is put your best foot forward by preparing and rehearsing your college audition package.

When choosing rep, our founder, Allyson looks for a piece that will showcase the student's talent and personality at the same time. This is a super personal decision and it varies student to student. She been around the block a few times and has an abundance of repertoire in her back pocket. Sometimes she will meet someone and immediately think of a perfect song for them. Other times, it may take a few conversations to figure out exactly who they are and what repertoire would showcase them best.

Do PreScreens need to be professionally filmed?
Not at all! All you need to film a successful prescreen is a camera or iphone, good lighting and a solid backdrop (a wall in your own home). You can control and create a quality prescreen from your own living room.

The tricky thing with prescreens is the protocol that colleges look for in a properly put together self-tape. To name a few: How to slate your audition? Do you look at the camera or away from it? What order do you put your audition pieces in? We have the answers to all of those questions and can save you time, frustration and a few attempts at refilming your prescreen! ABCoaching's PreScreen Prep Package gives you all of the ins-and-outs of the process.
